BANARASIAN began with a straightforward observation: the cloth coming out of Banaras is world-class, and the everyday clothing most of us wear is not. We wanted the two things in the same garment — the discipline of the loom and the plainness of a tee you reach for without thinking.

Banaras has spent centuries turning thread, surface and patience into cloth worth keeping. The looms here taught us that weight is not a cost — it is the point. BANARASIAN takes that habit and points it at ordinary clothing: denser cotton, honest construction, cuts that hold their line after a hundred washes.

01 — Fabric first
240 GSM combed cotton and 450 GSM brushed French terry. We decide the weight before the pattern, because weight is what the garment has to say for itself in two years.
02 — One unit
Everything is cut and stitched in one small unit in Varanasi. Controlled runs mean we can correct a seam, not explain it away.
03 — No decoration
No prints, no logos on the outside, no seasonal gimmicks. Construction is the product: ribbing, tape, twin-needle hems, pre-shrunk yarn.

Why the weight
THE WEIGHT. THE HAND FEEL. THE CONSTRUCTION.
Most everyday tees sit between 150 and 180 GSM. That is why they go thin at the collar and start reading the shape of your body after a month. We start at 240 GSM and go up to 450 GSM, which changes the equation entirely: the garment holds a silhouette on its own.
- 240 GSM combed cotton
- Long-staple yarn, bio-washed, ring-spun at high twist. Dense but breathable — the reason the shoulder stays square.
- 450 GSM French terry
- Loop-back terry brushed on the inside face. Absorbs light rather than shine, so navy reads navy, not sheen.
- Construction that carries load
- Shoulder-to-shoulder tape, twin-needle hems, 2x2 ribbing at cuffs and collar. Pre-shrunk before cutting.
